Ahoy Maties, We just installed a NEW ranking system. If you remember, our old system was based on Military Rankings. This time it will be a little more fun with a LOT more levels to pursue! We're going with the structure on board a Pirate Ship this time.

You'll find that you progress fairly quickly through the Orientation and Recruit Levels and pretty soon you'll be a full-fledged PIRATE. Then, from that point you will continue up through the status levels working your way up through each specific job/level on the Ships crew.

The more you post, the faster you increase your ships status until you become a senior crew member. You'll go through levels such as a Sailmaker, Midshipman, Bucaneer, etc. (BYOB: Bring Your Own cannon Balls)

Since Jim nor myself have ever worked on a Pirate Ship... Jim is researching the hierarchy of a command so we can put the levels in order. The first 7 levels are in place now and should hold us for a little while till we get that research done. If you blow past that 7th level before we get the rest of the structure in place, you'll automatically upgrade to your actual position when those levels are entered into our ranking system.

POST AWAY and have fun, We need crew members to fill a bunch of positions above the basic Pirate levels!

Hey Guys, assist us a bit here. Jim came up with the actual hierarchy of a Pirate Ship but the titles don't exactly match to the graphics package that I have so we need to sort it out a little.

Jim came up with:
Captain:
Quartermaster:
Ship's Master (Pilot):
Boatswain:
Sailing Master:
Master Gunner:
Carpenter:
Surgeon:
Cook:
Mate:
Powder Monkey

NOW, The choices (graphics) we have for rankings are:
(Those in red are locked in, we need to sort out those in black):
Captain
Commander
Gunner
Master
Midshipman
Mutineer
Privateer
Sailmaker
Pirate

We don't necessarily have to be correct in order, (who's gonna know except for a real pirate) As long as we're agreeable to whatever we come up with. Post your ORDER and we'll see what we come up with and lock 'em in.

your order looks good to me, as long as the captain can keep this ship on coarse and don't run aground again, anytime soon...ha-ha-ha..............sorry 'bout that wayne...

I actually pulled off a forum upgrade both in this forum and the FishFinder Forum 2 days ago with no ill effects. I think I got it where I won't be hitting those Lake Marion stumps anymore when it comes to that. Of course, there's always a million other ways to sink a ship.

I've waited a couple of days to express my thoughts about the rankings.
Looks like you were in the ball park with your original rankings. Maybe you could blend your creations with the formal names and reduce the number of rankings. It might get less complicated.

OK, the rest of the ranking has been installed. You'll progress pretty quickly through the ranks, especially if you are an active member. Since I'm using a pre-designed package rather than creating the graphics myself. You'll see the graphics appear as members reach the required levels... here is how it will be applied

<5 posts: Pirate Orientation Program
6-30 posts: 6 quick progressing levels of Pirate Recruit
31 posts: Pirate status
35 posts: Buccaneer
40 posts: Sailmaker
60 posts: Privateer
80 posts: Mutineer
100 posts: Midshipman
125 posts: Master
150 posts: Gunner (this being the top level for members)

We have the level of 'Commander' reserved for our Global Moderators and 'Captain' reserved for Site Administrators.

In the future as we grow this forum back to it's previous levels, We could choose to appoint additional Global Moderators (Commanders) if it gets to be more than we can handle with the current team. Those appointments in the past have been based solely on a members dedication to the group and helping it's members more than any other criteria.

So, there ya go... Top dog position at just 150 postings and the potential to reach Commander status by appointment.
