For years i have only fished the canal if you had to pick would it be the upper lake or the lower lake as the best.

Hey uglystick,
My preference is for the lower lake. That's where I spend most of my time. I've got some areas I fish in the upper lake that I fish seasonally.
Both lakes are productive. I guess it's a matter of which one we get more familiar and comfortable with.

the main difference in the two lakes is moultrie was cleared before flooding but not marion, it is full of under water standing timber...so if you hang a really big fish in moultrie, you may get him...but in marion you may just have a good fish story about the one that got away and a broken line...

I've always heard people say that the cats are typically larger on Moultrie. But, that said, I've pulled mid 40's out of both lakes at the far ends of both, Billups to Bonneau.
